This winter has been a long one. Cold and lots of snow,a return to the winters of my youth. I have been enjoying painting this winter and am looking forward to the late winter and the running water of the creeks as the melting starts perhaps later this month. I have been concentrating on scenes closer to home lately visiting local haunts and finding several nice paintings in the process.
I have been employing a few different colors in these paintings. I have included Colbalt Violet which gives the snow a shimmery feel and Colbalt Turquoise which is a nice soft greenish blue. I have also painted more urban settings with the several bridge paintings along Minnehaha creek.
I have several studio paintings in various stages of completion that I work on when unable to get outside these include some river paintings as well some larger versions of my bridge paintings. I enjoy painting in the studio but it is no substitute for getting out in the elements with a cigar and the smell of turp mixing in the air!
